I decided to draw part of the main street of my local town, Fleet, and one particular section which is very distinctive and interesting; a centenary shop WC Baker & Son, a wonderful, old-fashion full-service DIY shop, on the left of which there is a path leading to the Harlington Centre - the Town Hall and Cultural Centre, with a car parking square in front of the Harlington. This is my own small record for posterity, as though we hope Bakers will continue to serve the community as it has for so long, the car park and the Harlington will be replaced soon by a new Cultural and Arts Centre.
My focus was intended to be Baker’s shop front, and the variety of merchandise in front and to the side of it, but I drew it too much in the centre of the paper as my eye got drawn to the path, the Harlington and the car park square on the left. Next time I will incorporate more features of the street and do more preliminary sketching so I don’t get distracted, and hopefully the weather will be better and more pleasant for sketching.
