The exercise was to find a tree that interested me and draw four preliminary sketches. I chose a tree from the Country Park near my home - a very distinctive tree with a hole in the middle of the trunk - which makes it more interesting.
Unfortunately the weather on that day was very cold so I did three quick sketches and the final one a few days later when the weather was better. I’m not very happy with the result - because of the weather I was not relaxed, but though it wasn’t very pleasant I think I fulfilled the objective of the exercise, which was to help me to get a grip of the structure and practice of simplify the branches and the foliage of the tree.
